I Saw Giorgio!

Like I said in the previous post, Giorgio Armani's Prive collection was my first attempt at seeing a fashion show. It was at the Palais de Chaillet, a museum in a tres chic part of Paris. I wasn't expecting to get in since I didn't have tickets, but it was fun nonetheless watching the rich and famous come in.
Since Sundance Film Festival is going on this week in the U.S. there weren't that many famous people attending the Haute Couture shows. And the crowd wasn't as a big as I thought it would be! People in their twenties dressed very hip and the older women busted out their fur coats in diamonds. And anyone that worked for a fashion magazine was dressed in black (of course!). About 30 minutes before the show started Giorgio walked the red carpet. And that caused the biggest uproar of all! He was fabulous, polite, and very well groomed. I love him! Unfortunately I didn't get a good picture because I am too self-conscious to push myself through all the photographers to get a good shot! I just got to keep a little dignity about me, even if it is Armani!

Yves Saint Laurent

Today after lunch in a cafe I was en route to my apartment when I saw our neighbor and his wife driving. They stopped to say hello and I ended up jumping in the car to go with them to a Yves Saint Laurent exhibition! YSL is a major fashion player, with a particular following among french women. Although the exhibit was tiny (around 15 mannequins), I learned a lot! Which is, of course, the reason I went.
For example, did you know that he got his design start in the theatre? Afterwards, he started working for Christian Dior before starting his own line. He styled clothes for Zizi, a famous cabaret singer, and the French actress, Catherine Denueve. YSL stopped designing for Le Maison (or fashion house) in 2002 after a fallout with the company, but the company still uses his name to this day.

I am BACK - Le version Paris...

Sorry I went MIA for a month on ya! I was crazy busy with finals, packing for Christmas and moving to PARIS! That’s right, I am here for the next 4 months. And I couldn’t be happier despite the fact that I am in the city of love sans Michael, my boyfriend.
The main reason I am here is because I was determined to study abroad, even though I thought I would be in Spain, not Paris.
Yet after my wonderful summer in New York I decided that Paris was a better fit for what I planned to go into: fashion magazines. So here I am in Paris – and desperately trying to find a way to go to fashion week!
Yes, that is right, fashion week is finally HERE previewing designers fall collections. So those who love magazines and fashion and DON’T have to clue as to what it’s about, go check out New York or Paris Fashion Week websites!. I’ll post more details later to fill you in! Au revoir!

10 Steps to Landing Your Dream Internship

1. Create a Resume (no matter how short it is)
2. Find Contacts for where you want to work - use Ed2010 and friends
3. E-mail contacts and attach resume. This is your time to sell yourself!
4. Wait....(atleast 2 weeks) to e-mail contacts again. Be polite but show how much you want the job!
5. Prepare for the interview by researching the company and industry news.
6. Expect to answer questions like "Why do you love fashion?" "Why should we pick you?" etc.
7. Wearing something stylish to the interview, but dear God, please no cracks or cleavage!
8.Follow up with thank-you e-mails to the people you interviewed with
9.If you don't get your #1 job, keep trying. If you're smart and determined enough, you'll eventually get it!
10.CELEBRATE When you get the job! Then start researching everything about the company so you are the kick-ass intern who already knows all your bosses names!

PS... NOT just for Spring Interns

Hey guys I've had 5-10 peeps saying that people are only asking for spring interns on Ed2010.... but that doesn't mean you can't e-mail them! E-mail them and ask when they are looking for summer interns. This way, they already know who you are, you have their contact info, and you will be the first to apply when they are looking for summer ones!
Plus, a lot of people don't advertise for summer interns because most of the positions are already filled by the time spring comes around... I PROMISE people are already interviewing, even if they don't say so on Ed2010!
Good Luck!

I Am the Devil? Who says that?!
