1. Create a Resume (no matter how short it is)
2. Find Contacts for where you want to work - use Ed2010 and friends
3. E-mail contacts and attach resume. This is your time to sell yourself!
4. Wait....(atleast 2 weeks) to e-mail contacts again. Be polite but show how much you want the job!
5. Prepare for the interview by researching the company and industry news.
6. Expect to answer questions like "Why do you love fashion?" "Why should we pick you?" etc.
7. Wearing something stylish to the interview, but dear God, please no cracks or cleavage!
8.Follow up with thank-you e-mails to the people you interviewed with
9.If you don't get your #1 job, keep trying. If you're smart and determined enough, you'll eventually get it!
10.CELEBRATE When you get the job! Then start researching everything about the company so you are the kick-ass intern who already knows all your bosses names!

hey ashley!great blog..i just have a quick question about sending out resumes..is it better to attach a cover letter or copy and paste it into the body of the email?i'm afraid that the editor will get annoyed with having to open up too many attachments, especially with the resume and clips.
thanks!
yeah I wouldn't worry about a cover letter unless a)they ask for one b) it is for a more "formal" company or c) you are sending in a paper copy (which is more likely to get lost in the shuffle if you ask me). Good luck!
oh and ps - make sure the resume is no longer than one page.... try to fit it all on there or cut out the unimportant stuff!
Hello, I just want to say thank you all of the advice you've posted so far! I just got an internship with Seventeen in the fashion department for the entire summer...I never thought a high school girl could have this opportunity, but apparently their only strict requirement is school-credit, not necessarily college. Thanks!
Celebrate! I def forgot that one in my post on Landing an Internship Freshman year..check it out

Oh and fyi..you paste the cover letter in the body of the email, just make sure it doesn't sound generic and is personable..if you name drop some internships in your cover letter they are more likely to open your resume attachment especially since there really is nothing but your cover letter to distinguish your email from the 200 others they get that week. Good luck!
Hello Ashley great blog!
I did a video for school with Suze of Glamour magazine in June.
Here's the link

I just want to know are you in it or do you recognize any of the interns in the video?
Cool Video! How did you go about filming that, do you do freelance videos or do you work for Glamour?no I'm actually not in the video - but all the girls I interned with are! My bosses are as well - I worked with Liza Collis and her fashion editor, Sarah Meikle! I don't remember seeing them being filmed, so I must have been out running an errand!
I had emailed Suze explaining to her to her about my project and she agreed. Well I do sort of do freelance video for my blog. No unforunately I do not work for Glamour. Hopefully one day I will when I finish school the environment there is really nice.
if you want to read more about the videos here are the links:

Hey ashley,
I like your blog...but it needs to be updated more frequently!! It's winter break...new posts please!
je suis de soleil (sp?) I have been playing THE COVE in the Bahamas, moving to PARIS! woo hoo! I am back and promise to be more frequent! almost daily!
So I have an interview with a Conde Nast mag for a summer internship in the accessories department at the end of this month. And although I am uber-excited, I am also extremely anxious. Any advice as far as how to prepare or questions to expect?
Hi Ashley,
I applied for a summer internship with Conde Nast through my school. My career advisor said that my school had a good relationship with them and when she sent in my resume and cover letter they liked them and said they would contact me. How long does it usually take for them to get back to you? Thanks!
Hey!
I'm just curious. What do you put in a resume if you haven't had any magazine-related experience (I hope that isn't a dumb question)?
