I had this crazy dream last night that I was interning at Glamour during my winter break and all of my friends in high school were interning as well and I was thinking,"wait a minute.. how the hell did you get here? And why is the Glamour staff working out of my house?!" And then I looked around and saw all the staffers with really butch haircuts and the cast from StarWars being photographed... strange i know!
Some people have asked me how do you contact the place you want to work? Good luck if you go through the human resource department - it will take you months to talk to the person you want to! Instead, go to EdBoard 2010 (link is to the right) and find the intern job whispers page. When you get there look at all the want ads and the e-mail addresses listed below!
While you may not be able to work for the term they need someone, you can definitely let them know you are interested in a summer job! So ask them when they are hiring for summer, and always attach your resume just in case they want to look right then. Make it easy for them, and keep the e-mail short!

Hi Ashley! Since I heard about your blog from the Ed2010 website, I have found myself checking it quite frequently and have found it most relevant and very helpful. I am currently in a critical time in my college career as a junior and landing a phenomenal internship this upcoming summer is crucial. I have an extensive amount of professional experience from working for numerous university publications and interning at a fashion and lifestyle magazine this past summer. But, this upcoming summer is going to be and needs to be the big NYC internship and I guess I was just wanting to know your best suggestions as far as making all the right moves from here on out. I suppose I am referring to the basics --- timing, contacting, interviewing, etc. If you could just explain and describe the steps you took from the resume send off to the final acceptance of your chosen internship, I would greatly appreciate it! I just want to do everything right so I can land my dream internship in NYC this summer as well! Thanks so much!
